Yes, your dog's teeth need to be cleaned to prevent bad breath, and periodontal disease. Dogs are susceptible to the same types of dental issues that we face. Brushing is one way to combat this. However, if your dogs are like ours they will fight every time the toothbrush comes out. It's like wrestling a bear or in our case a Great Dane.
There are many products on the market that claim to clean teeth and labeled "Dental Chews". Yes even the "Green" ones are labeled "Dental Chews". Take note the below ingredients:
"Wheat flour, wheat gluten, glycerin, gelatin, oat fiber, water, lecithin, natural poultry flavor, minerals (dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, magnesium amino acid chelate, zinc amino acid chelate, iron amino acid chelate, copper amino acid chelate, manganese amino acid chelate, selenium, potassium iodide), dried apple pomace, choline chloride, fruit juice color, vitamins ( dl-alpha tocopherol acetate [source of vitamin E], vitamin B12 supplement, d-calcium pantothenate [vitamin B5], niacin supplement, vitamin A supplement, riboflavin supplement [vitamin B2], vitamin D3 supplement, biotin, pyridoxine hydrochloride [vitamin B6], thiamine mononitrate [vitamin B1], folic acid), turmeric color."
There are other ways to clean your dog's teeth. One method is taking them to the Vet which would bring a large bill and usually involves the use of anesthesia. There are risks with using anesthesia on your dog. It is much easier on your dog if you can brush their teeth and if they don't let you like ours then all-natural dehydrated single-ingredient dog chews are next best way to keep their teeth clean and get rid of their bad breath.
There is a much easier way to brush your dog's teeth and it will keep them occupied while they are cleaning. You can use any of our chews to help keep the tar buildup down tremendously but the chews with bones are the best. Chicken, Duck and Turkey Neck Chews are the best.
Runner ups would be either Beef, Lamb, or Goat Trachea, depending on the size of your dog and Bully stick (Pizzle). The Beef Trachea are more for Medium to Large and the Lamb and Goat are for smaller breads.
Alternatively, Pig ears would also help manage the tartar build up and bad breath.
As always make sure you supervise your dog while they are chewing on our products. Also make sure they have access to fresh clean water as they will want to drink something after their chew session.
